Workload Control in General Practice
Date sent: Tuesday 10 April 2018
Dear %recipient.firstname%,
Many of you will already have seen the BMA document "Workload Control in General Practice". This document highlights the significant increase in workload which general practices are facing, and the risks associated with this. The document also provides an action plan for addressing the workload crisis.
I would encourage all GPs and practice managers to read the document, and have attached it to this email so that you can do so.
The document was debated recently at the Conference of LMCs, and was commended as a good basis to start negotiations with government and health commissioners. However, LMC Conference also asked GPC to identify how the action plan can be implemented along side the capitation-based GMS and PMS contracts, and with the constraints of CQC, GMC, and indemnity providers.
The Lincolnshire LMC also debated the document at our last Committee meeting. The Committee encourages all GPs to reflect upon how workload effects their practice, and to debate how this can be best managed in their practice. The Committee would also encourage practices to highlight the document to CCGs, so that CCGs can benefit from the facts and figures within the document. CCGs should be encouraged to start planning how to reduce workload pressures faced by practices, so that GPs can provide safe and sustainable care for patients.
If you have any questions about the document, please feel free to discuss this with your local LMC representative or contact the LMC office.
Best wishes
Kieran
