This is an evening event.
Times: 19:00 - 20:30
Have you ever heard comments made about groups of people, or someone specific, that you wish you were able to challenge? Are you apprehensive about intervening when you see what sounds like discrimination, in case you 'say the wrong thing'?
Bystander intervention is about recognising a potentially harmful situation or interaction, including 'micro-aggressions', and choosing to respond in a way that could positively influence the outcome.
“Our perspectives are coloured by our own cultures and experiences and influence most if not all of what we do, so we need to think about how every interaction we have, in person and in systems, addresses the possibility of exclusion”.
This workshop will help you consider how your privilege positions you to speak up. Your own characteristics, such as age, race or gender empower you to speak up and be vocal about harassment – especially when you are not the target or representative of the target group.
