Primary Care Workload Observatory

Primary Care Workload Observatory

Practices are constantly being told how busy the hospitals are. CCGS, government, and the press repeatedly quote how long waiting lists are, and how long A&E waits are. Lincolnshire LMC and LMCs across the country try to rebut this by pointing out that general practices are also facing unprecedented levels of workload. Unfortunately this falls of deaf ears because we do not have the data to back this claim up.

There is now a solution to this. The RCGP Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC) has partnered with the University of Surrey and the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership to create the Primary Care Workload Observatory (PCOW). This Observatory aims to develop a system to understand “real-time evidence on current workload levels as well as provide a picture of the complexity of cases that are increasingly seen in general practice”.

The PCWO is wanting to recruit practices who can get involved in this innovative research. If you would like to know more, the PCWO information leaflet for practices is available in the attachment at the top of the page. You can also email i.yonova@surrey.ac.uk for more information.
