Psychotropic Prescribing Webinar Session 1 - Basic principles and evidence
This session will be highlighting how evidence favours a relational and contextual (what’s happened to you) over technical model (what’s wrong with you) for understanding mental health, i.e. Psychiatric diagnosis aren’t really diagnoses (they have no explanatory power), there are no chemical imbalances, no physical markers because no one can find them, but in general the strongest support is for ‘psychological injury’ making mental distress more likely. The session will also cover general outcomes with psychotropic medication – some evidence for improving short term outcomes, little for improving long term, in fact some evidence that continuing on such meds can lead to worse long term outcomes. Two further sessions coming soon!
