We are looking for a healthcare assistant or a trainee/ trained nursing associate to join our friendly and supportive team of GPs, Nurse practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and non-clinical team members at Wragby Surgery. The surgery is purpose-built with large consulting rooms serves the town of Wragby and the surrounding villages. The practice has a number of patients who are housebound or live in care homes and the post holder may be required to visit these patients in the community.

The successful candidate will support us to maintain a high professional standard of care to our patients as well as to provide assistance to the GPs and other members of the primary healthcare team. We recognise that Healthcare Assistants have varying levels of experience and we will provide the necessary training and support to further develop your skills. It is essential that this role holder works within their own level of competency and to expand their role in accordance with practice requirements and own scope of practice.

 

Duties and Responsibilities will depend on the experience/ qualification of the candidate but could cover:

  • Offer health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment, which may include:
  • BP checks, height, weight, BMI, urinalysis and smoking status
  • Breast health awareness
  • Cervical screening
  • New patient checks
  • Well man/woman checks
  • Advice for healthy eating, exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking
  • Perform routine nursing tasks such as:
  • Venepuncture
  • Recording ECG
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients
  • Dressings and wound care
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and administer vaccines according to current guidelines and legislation
  • Administer and monitor medication consistent with protocols, standards, and legislation
  • Monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment, reporting to nurses / Practice Manager as required
  • Perform other clinical tasks as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the Practice. This may include:
  • Chronic disease management reviews including asthma, diabetic, non-diabetic hyperglycaemia cardiovascular disease, high risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension
  • Consultations for diabetics including lifestyle advice, BP, weight, height, foot assessments and referring to suitable registered practitioners
  • Administer IM vaccinations including, NHS selective programme, NHS additional vaccinations and NHS supported travel vaccinations which may include: Covid, Shingles, Pneumococcal, Influenza, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Boostrix, Meningitis ACWY, HiB, Revaxis under a Patient Specific Directive
  • Administer injectable contraception including under a Patient Specific Directive following the late injection guidelines if appropriate, and refer to GP or suitable qualified practitioner if required
  • Perform wound care following a documented plan of care completed by a suitable qualified practitioner
  • Prepare specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions according to Infection Control guidelines
  • Undertake infection control monitoring
  • Work with the practice population and wider community to promote healthy living and encourage uptake of services.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • Enable patients, families and carers to develop their knowledge and understanding about their health and well-being and be as self-managing as possible
  • Demonstrate a range of technical and clinical skills and competencies in accordance with the needs of the service
  • Demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, prioritising workload effectively
  • Demonstrate an ability to use a problem-solving approach within limits of competence
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide holistic patient-centred care
  • Undertake, record and follow guidelines for tasks for which you have received appropriate training and achieved competency
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and other documentation in accordance with Practice protocol
  • Be aware of and recognised issues relating to safeguarding for both adult and child and reports any concerns to the appropriate person

 

Salary: £22,425.00-£25,147.00 (plus pension) per year depending on experience and qualifications.
